In the early hours of June 20, 2023, a violent encounter at a state park in Paola, Kansas, ended the life of 43-year-old Bryan Hendrickson, a White male from Edgerton. Emergency services were called to the Pintail Point Campground at Hillsdale State Park shortly after midnight following reports of a shooting and a stabbing. Upon their arrival, they discovered Hendrickson with a fatal gunshot wound and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Also present at the campground was 53-year-old Brian Meysenburg of Overland Park, who had sustained stab wounds. Meysenburg was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his non-life-threatening injuries. Following his release from the hospital, he was taken into custody by the Miami County Sheriff's Office in connection with Hendrickson's death.
Brian Meysenburg was subsequently arrested and charged with second-degree murder. He was booked into the Miami County Jail, with his bond set at $1 million. The specific circumstances that led to the deadly altercation at the campground remain under investigation by law enforcement officials.
