On the night of September 23, 2023, the life of 36-year-old Timothy Vandunk of Wichita, Kansas, was tragically cut short. The incident unfolded just after 11 p.m. at the Magnolia Woods apartment complex located in the 3600 block of West 13th Street in west Wichita. It is unclear if Vandunk was a resident of the apartment complex.
Responding to a shooting call, Wichita police officers arrived to find Vandunk on a walkway landing outside one of the apartment buildings, suffering from
multiple gunshot wounds. Officers immediately began rendering life-saving measures until emergency medical services arrived and transported him to a local hospital. Despite their efforts, Timothy Vandunk succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The preliminary investigation into the shooting indicated that a disturbance had occurred prior to the fatal shots being fired. Authorities stated that all individuals involved in the incident were acquainted with one another. Following the shooting, several "persons of interest" were taken into custody for questioning as investigators worked to piece together the events that led to Vandunk's death.
The case was set to be presented to the District Attorney's office for review.
