In the early morning hours of August 24, 2024, the life of David Dee Dawkins, a 47-year-old Caucasian male from Kansas City, Kansas, was tragically cut short. Just before 1:30 a.m., law enforcement responded to reports of a shooting near the 800 and 900 blocks of Washington Boulevard. Upon arrival, they discovered a chaotic scene with two male victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
One of the men was found outside and, despite being alert, was in critical condition and rushed to a nearby
hospital. A short distance away, in the 800 block of Washington Boulevard, officers located David Dawkins, who had also sustained a gunshot wound. He was transported to the University of Kansas Medical Center, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. His death marked the 18th homicide in Kansas City, Kansas, for the year.
David, born in Shawnee, Kansas, on June 20, 1977, was a graduate of Shawnee Mission North High School and was known for his love of the outdoors. He particularly enjoyed fishing, hunting, and mushroom hunting. He is survived by his mother, two sons, a daughter, a step-daughter, a sister, a brother, three step-brothers, and a granddaughter.
The Kansas City, Kansas Police Department's Major Case Unit is actively investigating the double shooting. As of now, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the homicide. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Crime Stoppers TIPS hotline, assuring that all tips will remain anonymous and could lead to a cash reward. The community and his family are left mourning his untimely death as they await justice.
