In the early morning hours of April 20, 2023, the life of 19-year-old Kevin Dewayne Dunn was tragically cut short in a shooting on Dayton Street in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Black / African American male was fatally wounded in an incident that occurred at approximately 5:34 a.m.
Initial reports from the Baton Rouge Police Department indicated that a person had been detained in connection with the shooting.
Curiously, the individual who was taken into custody was also the person who placed the 911 call to report the shooting. Following questioning, this individual was initially released without any immediate charges being filed. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Dunn's death remained ongoing for several months.
Then, in a significant development on August 23, 2023, Baton Rouge Police announced an arrest in the case. Thirty-seven-year-old Randy Orange was taken into custody in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on August 15, based on a warrant issued for his involvement in Dunn's death. After his apprehension, Orange was extradited to East Baton Rouge, where he was booked into the parish prison. He has been charged with one count of manslaughter in connection with the death of Kevin Dewayne Dunn. Further details on what led to the shooting have not been released by authorities.
