On a late Saturday morning in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the life of 23-year-old Tramaine Phillips Sr., an African American male, was tragically cut short. On June 11, 2022, at approximately 9:40 a.m., Phillips was standing outside the Gus Young Grocery at 4412 Gus Young Avenue when gunfire erupted. He was struck by the bullets and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Another man, aged 26, was also shot and rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.
Authorities believe both men were together outside the business when the shooting occurred. The Baton Rouge Police Department launched a homicide investigation into the incident.
Despite the ongoing investigation by the Violent Crimes Unit, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. Detectives continue to seek information from the public to bring those responsible for Tramaine Phillips' death to justice.
