In the late evening hours of Wednesday, May 24, 2023, the life of 18-year-old Markell B. Jackson was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire at Huber Park in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Deputies from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the park, located in the 2400 block of 4th Avenue, at approximately 7:30 p.m. following reports of shots being fired. Upon their arrival, they discovered a chaotic scene and a community shaken by the violence that had just unfolded.
