On a February evening in Lake Charles, Louisiana, a heated argument escalated into a tragic act of violence that claimed the life of 43-year-old Felton Paul Boutte. The male victim was at a home on Smith Road on February 6, 2014, when he engaged in a physical altercation with Jonathon Jerome Guillory, the boyfriend of his step-daughter.
Family members who were present intervened and managed to separate the two men.
However, the brief de-escalation was shattered when Guillory retrieved a firearm from another room in the house. He returned and shot Boutte at least three times, inflicting fatal wounds. When law enforcement arrived, Guillory claimed that he had acted in self-defense.
Following an investigation into the shooting, Jonathon Jerome Guillory was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. In August 2015, a jury found him guilty as charged. The following month, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence. Guillory later appealed his conviction, but the state Supreme Court upheld the original verdict, ensuring he would serve his life sentence for the murder of Felton Paul Boutte.
