On January 1, 2024, at approximately 4:30 a.m., the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office received a notification about a woman with severe injuries being treated at a local hospital in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The woman informed deputies that her boyfriend, Derik K. Rayborn, 47, of Lake Charles, had killed her son and their dog at their residence located off Highway 90 E. in Lake Charles.
