On a summer evening in Thibodaux, Louisiana, the life of 19-year-old Carl Poindexter Jr. was cut short by gunfire. The fatal shooting occurred just before 7:30 p.m. on June 10, 2023, on Sagewood Drive. When deputies from the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office arrived at the scene, they discovered that at least one person had been shot. Poindexter, a resident of nearby Houma, was rushed to a local hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Further investigation revealed that two
other individuals had also been wounded in the incident, though their injuries were not considered life-threatening. The identities of these two victims have not been publicly released. Described as a well-respected and outgoing young man, Carl Poindexter Jr. was born on October 18, 2003.
Following an extensive investigation into the shooting, authorities from the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office apprehended a juvenile male from Thibodaux on August 1, 2023. Due to his status as a minor, the suspect's identity has been withheld. He is currently being held at the Terrebonne Parish Juvenile Justice Center.
The juvenile suspect faces serious charges in connection with the death of Carl Poindexter Jr. and the injuries sustained by the other two victims. The charges include one count of Second Degree Murder, two counts of Attempted Second Degree Murder, and one count of Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property.
