In the waning hours of a Sunday afternoon in New Orleans, on September 17, 2023, a life was cut short in a burst of violence. Nelson Harry, a 32-year-old male, was discovered inside a vehicle in the 3700 block of Garden Oaks Drive, unresponsive and suffering from the devastating effects of a gunshot wound. The New Orleans Police Department's Fourth District officers, responding to a call of a shooting at approximately 12:03 p.m., arrived to a grim scene.
Medical personnel were summoned, but it was too late; Mr. Harry was pronounced dead at the location, his life tragically ending within the confines of his car.
The initial investigation swiftly turned from a shooting into a homicide case. Two days later, on September 19, 2023, the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office formally identified the victim as Nelson Harry and confirmed that the preliminary cause of his death was indeed the injuries he sustained from being shot. As the city mourned another loss to gun violence, detectives from the NOPD Homicide Section began the arduous task of piecing together the events that led to this fatal encounter, searching for the person responsible for this act.
Their investigation ultimately led them to a suspect. Through their diligent work, detectives identified Teddy Allen as the alleged perpetrator in the murder of Nelson Harry. An arrest warrant was secured, charging Allen with one count of second-degree murder. In a turn of events, it was discovered that Allen was already incarcerated at the Orleans Parish Justice Center in connection with a separate and unrelated incident. Consequently, he was re-booked on the new and severe charge, facing justice for the untimely death of Nelson Harry.
