He was quickly transported to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he died within the hour.
Just minutes before the shooting, Carl had FaceTimed his mother, Fredericka Richardson, from a party he was attending with friends.
Carl, born on January 7, 2006, to Carl O'Neal Sr. and Fredericka Richardson, was a male student on the cusp of a bright future. A senior at Booker T. Washington High School, he maintained a 4.0 GPA and was set to graduate with honors in May 2024. His talents extended beyond academics; he was the trombone section leader in the school's band and had aspirations of joining the Grambling University Tiger Marching Band the following fall. He had already been awarded a full scholarship through the 'Call Me Mister' program to fund his college education. His interests were diverse, including being an aspiring recording artist, musical engineer, and producer. He had even taken on the role of a soccer coach, learning a new language to better communicate with his team.
The New Orleans Police Department is actively investigating the fatal shooting of Carl O'Neal Jr.. However, authorities have not yet released any information regarding potential suspects or a motive for the shooting.
