A Christmas weekend hunting trip in Baton Rouge took a tragic turn on Saturday, December 23, 2023, resulting in the death of 34-year-old Jacob Francois Altazan. The male Port Allen resident was deer hunting with two other men when he was fatally shot.

The shooter was identified as 54-year-old Thomas Franklin, who was also part of the hunting party. According to police reports, Franklin stated that he mistook Altazan for a deer. The incident occurred in the 1100 block of Scenic Highway, an ...
