Jarrett Stanley, a 28-year-old Black male, was found shot to death on February 7, 2011, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He and his girlfriend, 27-year-old Latonya Wright, were discovered in their apartment on North 45th Street by a concerned friend who had not heard from them. Both victims had sustained multiple gunshot wounds in what investigators quickly determined was a double homicide.
The initial investigation into the deaths of Stanley and Wright pointed toward a targeted attack, as
there were no signs of forced entry into the apartment. The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office diligently worked the case, and within days, their efforts led to the identification of two suspects. Jerome P. Henderson and Darrin E. Johnson were subsequently arrested and faced charges in connection with the double murder.
Following their arrests, both Jerome P. Henderson and Darrin E. Johnson were indicted on two counts of first-degree murder. The legal proceedings against the two men moved through the court system. After their trials, both Henderson and Johnson were convicted for their roles in the killings of Jarrett Stanley and Latonya Wright. They were each sentenced to serve life in prison without the possibility of parole.
