In the evening hours of Thursday, January 11, 2024, a shooting incident in the Algiers neighborhood of New Orleans claimed the life of 20-year-old Deontae Dquan Bessie. A native of Gretna, Louisiana, and a resident of New Orleans, Bessie was a young father and a former employee of Amazon.
New Orleans Police Department officers responded to a call of a shooting at approximately 9:02 p.m. in the 3300 block of Memorial Park Drive.
Upon arrival, they discovered Bessie suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deontae Dquan Bessie was the father of a young daughter. He is survived by his parents, siblings, and a large extended family. His death has been described as a profound loss to his family and friends. Funeral services were held on Friday, January 26, 2024, at the Fischer Community Church in New Orleans.
The investigation into Bessie's death is ongoing. The New Orleans Police Department has not released information regarding any potential suspects or arrests in connection with the shooting.
