On January 11, 2024, 20-year-old Deontae Dquan Bessie, a native of Gretna, Louisiana, and resident of New Orleans, tragically lost his life. The New Orleans Police Department reported that around 9:02 p.m., officers responded to a shooting in the 3300 block of Memorial Park Drive in Algiers, where they found Bessie suffering from a gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
