On the evening of January 27, 2024, 42-year-old Black male Cody D. Abbott was fatally shot in New Orleans East. The New Orleans Police Department responded to a call around 7:44 p.m. reporting a shooting in the 14,000 block of Chef Menteur Highway. Upon arrival, officers discovered Cody Abbott suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency Medical Services pronounced him dead at the scene. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office later confirmed his identity.
