In the late afternoon of Sunday, February 25, 2024, a dispute in a Baton Rouge shopping plaza parking lot escalated to deadly violence, claiming the life of 21-year-old Cesar Ayala-Ortiz. The fatal encounter unfolded at approximately 5:50 p.m. in the 12000 block of Florida Boulevard, within the Florida East Plaza.
According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, the shooting was preceded by a verbal and physical altercation.
Witnesses reported seeing several individuals arguing in the parking lot before the fatal shot was fired. In the aftermath of the confrontation, the suspect fled the scene on foot, disappearing before law enforcement could arrive.
