Annette Dupre Touvell, a 65-year-old woman from Lake Charles, Louisiana, was tragically killed on the evening of Saturday, March 2, 2024, in what authorities have described as a senseless act of violence. Touvell was at her residence, watching television with her husband, when she was struck by a bullet from a drive-by shooting that penetrated her home.
She was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
The investigation into her death quickly led to the identification of a vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting. This information led authorities to St. Martinville, where the vehicle, which had been reported stolen, was located. The subsequent investigation resulted in the arrests of several individuals. Among those taken into custody were Jordan L. Jones, 18, and two 17-year-old females. Jones was charged with second-degree murder, and his bond was set at $2 million. The two juveniles were booked into the Juvenile Detention Center.
Authorities also arrested Chelsea R. Hyatt, 36, the mother of one of the teenagers, on charges of obstruction of justice. It is alleged that she was aware of her daughter's involvement in the shooting but failed to notify law enforcement. Another suspect, 25-year-old Tyler D. Lewis of Bridge City, Texas, was identified as a principal to second-degree murder, and law enforcement sought assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service to locate him.
During the course of the investigation, three other individuals, Briley A. Lewis, 18, Payton B. Mott, 19, and Andrew B. Norwood, 21, were also arrested on drug-related charges after a search of a home in Sulphur uncovered suspected THC vape oil and other drug paraphernalia.
Annette Touvell was remembered as a loving mother and grandmother to fifteen grandchildren. Her family and community were left to mourn the loss of an innocent woman who was killed in her own home. She was born in Mobile, Alabama, on May 10, 1958, and had been a resident of Lake Charles for most of her life. A homemaker, she found joy in gardening and spending time with her family.
