In the quiet community of Garyville, Louisiana, a tragic event unfolded on the evening of May 7, 2024, forever altering the lives of a local family. Todmonique Joseph, a 38-year-old female, was driving her vehicle near the intersection of South Fig and Sherman Walker streets when she was tragically killed in a double shooting. Another female passenger in the vehicle was also wounded in the attack but survived after being transported to a New Orleans area hospital for treatment.
The incident, which occurred around 7 p.m., left the community in shock. Authorities responding to the scene discovered the two women inside the vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. Tragically, Joseph was pronounced deceased at the scene. It was also revealed that her 3-year-old child was a passenger in the car at the time of the shooting. The child was taken from the vehicle by family members before deputies arrived and was treated at a local hospital before being released.
The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office immediately launched an investigation into the shooting. Through their inquiries and with the assistance of the community, detectives were able to identify 24-year-old Timothy Johnson of LaPlace as the primary suspect. A judicial warrant was issued for his arrest.
On Friday, May 10, 2024, Timothy Johnson was apprehended by law enforcement. He was subsequently charged with one count of second-degree murder for the death of Todmonique Joseph and two counts of attempted second-degree murder. Johnson is currently being held in custody on a $2 million bond. Sheriff Mike Tregre expressed his gratitude to the community for their assistance in providing information that led to the swift arrest of the suspect.
