In the heat of a Shreveport summer, a life was tragically cut short on July 1, 2024. Da'vante Vernell Johnson, Sr., a 32-year-old male, was killed in a shooting at an apartment complex. The incident unfolded on a Monday, leaving the community reeling and authorities searching for answers. Johnson was a father, his life taken by an act of gun violence that has become all too common.
The Shreveport Police Department quickly launched an investigation into the homicide.
Their efforts led to the identification of a suspect and a subsequent arrest. While the motive and the exact circumstances of the shooting are still under investigation, the swift action by law enforcement brought a sense of progress in the quest for justice for Johnson and his grieving family.
Following his untimely death, arrangements were made to honor Da'vante's memory. A visitation was scheduled for Friday, July 12, 2024, at Winnfield Funeral Homes in Shreveport, allowing friends and family to pay their respects. A celebration of his life was held the following day, Saturday, July 13, 2024, at the same location. He was laid to rest at Springville B.C. Cemetery in Coushatta, Louisiana.
