In the summer of 2024, a young man's life was cut tragically short in Port Allen, Louisiana. Jacolby Jones, a 24-year-old male, died from a single gunshot wound. The incident that led to his death unfolded on the evening of Sunday, July 7th. Jones was inside a vehicle with at least one other person, a 17-year-old named Lawrence Williams.
What exactly transpired inside the car remains somewhat unclear, but at some point, a gun was fired.
Jones was struck, and despite being rushed to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge by a private vehicle, his injuries proved fatal. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. The investigation quickly pointed to the teenage passenger as the one who fired the weapon.
The day after the shooting, on Monday, July 8th, Lawrence Williams was taken into custody by the Port Allen Police Department. He was subsequently charged with negligent homicide and illegal possession of a firearm by a juvenile. In a significant legal step, authorities announced that despite his age, Williams would be tried as an adult.
Following his death, Jacolby Dino Jones was remembered by his family and friends. His funeral services were held on Friday, July 19, 2024, at Hall's Celebration Center in Baton Rouge, with his interment at Winnfield Memorial Park. The community was left to grapple with the sudden and violent loss of a young life.
