In the early morning hours of July 23, 2024, the life of 41-year-old Tony 'Boochie' Jones was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire on Dryades Street in New Orleans. First responders arrived at the scene in the 2400 block of the street around 1:40 a.m. to find Jones suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
Tony Jones, a male resident of New Orleans, was born and raised in the
city. He attended Booker T. Washington High School and had a background working in the hospitality industry. More recently, he had been employed by the City of New Orleans. He was a father to four children.
In the days following the shooting, the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office officially identified Jones as the victim and confirmed that his death was a homicide resulting from gunshot-related injuries. As the New Orleans Police Department's Homicide Section delved into the investigation, they were able to identify a suspect in the fatal shooting.
On August 2, 2024, the NOPD publicly identified Dana “Dante” Dorceus as the alleged perpetrator. An arrest warrant was issued for Dorceus on one count of second-degree murder. Authorities have urged anyone with information on his whereabouts to come forward as the search for him continues.
