In the early morning hours of September 8, 2024, a shooting shattered the quiet of a street in Tallulah, Louisiana, leaving a young man's life cut tragically short. The incident, which occurred around 1:50 a.m. in the 200 block of Thomas Street, resulted in the death of 24-year-old John Ward Jr. of Texas. The Madison Parish Sheriff's Office initially responded to the scene and subsequently requested the assistance of the Louisiana State Police to lead the homicide investigation.
As
detectives delved into the circumstances surrounding the shooting, their investigation led them to identify several individuals believed to be involved. Less than a week after Ward's death, on September 13, 2024, authorities announced the arrests of four suspects. Javion Nelson, 21, of Delhi, was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder and obstruction of justice.
Three other Tallulah residents were also arrested in connection with the case. Gerald Albert, 26, faced charges of illegal carrying and discharge of a weapon, as well as possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Ta'Niqua Brazil, 33, was charged with obstruction of justice, aggravated second-degree battery, and false swearing. Deontay Willmore, 39, was also charged with obstruction of justice. All four individuals were arrested without incident and booked into the Madison Parish Detention Center as the investigation into Ward's death continued.
