In the late hours of an October night in Minden, Louisiana, the life of 36-year-old DeQuincy Jones, a male resident, was tragically cut short. On October 9, 2024, at approximately 10:30 p.m., police responded to a call about a man lying in the parking lot of the Hillside Apartments on Industrial Drive. Upon arrival, they discovered Jones with a single gunshot wound to the head.
Initially, the scene had the appearance of a suicide, with a firearm found near his feet.
However, detectives treated the case as a homicide from the outset, a standard procedure in such investigations. Their suspicions were confirmed when an autopsy revealed that the bullet that killed Jones was of a different caliber than the weapon found at the scene. The investigation uncovered that Jones had arranged to meet an individual from Shreveport under the pretense of purchasing a firearm. Investigators believe the meeting was a setup for a robbery. When Jones resisted, a struggle ensued, and he was shot once in the head at very close range.
Through witness interviews and the review of surveillance footage, authorities identified 23-year-old Michael Kingston of Shreveport as the primary suspect. A warrant for his arrest was issued, and on October 15, 2024, he was apprehended by the U.S. Marshal's Service in Shreveport. Kingston was subsequently transferred to Minden to face charges. He has been charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. In May 2025, Michael Kingston pleaded not guilty to a charge of second-degree murder in the 26th Judicial District Court in Minden. He is being held at the Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center on a bond totaling over $2 million.
