In the early morning hours of Sunday, July 18, 2021, the life of 17-year-old Ty'Quan Morris was tragically cut short in Minden, Louisiana. The young male was discovered in the breezeway just outside of his grandmother's apartment at the Chateau Normandy Apartments. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. The Minden Police Department received a call about the shooting at approximately 5:48 a.m. and upon arrival, found Morris lying wounded.
He was quickly transported by ambulance to the Minden Medical Center, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the shooting led to the swift apprehension of two juvenile suspects, aged 17 and 15. A Webster Parish sheriff's deputy, who lived in the vicinity of the apartment complex, was leaving his home when he observed two young males running down his street shortly after the time of the shooting. After hearing about the incident, the deputy began to search for the individuals he had seen. He conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was driving without its headlights on and found the two young men in the backseat.
During the traffic stop, the deputy noticed a semi-automatic pistol on the backseat between the two suspects. The weapon was later determined to have been stolen, and its caliber matched the shell casings found at the scene of the crime. Under questioning, one of the juveniles confessed to shooting Ty'Quan Morris. Both teenagers were taken into custody and transported to the Ware Detention Center. They were initially charged with attempted second-degree homicide, but with Morris's death, these charges were upgraded to homicide.
