In the late hours of February 8, 2023, the city of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, was pierced by the sound of gunfire. Just after 11 p.m., authorities received calls reporting shots fired near the intersection of Breathitt and Beach Streets. Responding officers discovered a man lying partially in the roadway, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The man was identified as Tony Anthony William Burse, a 42-year-old resident of McHenry Street.
Despite the arrival of an ambulance, his injuries were too severe, and the Christian County Coroner pronounced him dead at the scene.
Investigators cordoned off the area and began to piece together the events of that night. They recovered five shell casings and two bullet fragments from the street, evidence of the violence that had unfolded. The Hopkinsville Police Department launched a homicide investigation into the shooting death of the man who was known for his love of dancing, telling jokes, and sports.
As time passed, the case remained unsolved, with no arrests made and no suspects publicly identified. In an effort to generate new leads, the Hopkinsville-Christian County Crime Stoppers offered a $1,000 reward for any information that would lead to an arrest in connection with the murder. The police department has continued to appeal to the public for assistance, hoping that someone will come forward with the key piece of information that will bring justice for Tony Burse and his family. He was a husband and a father to four children, and a member of the Big Walnut Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
