On a tragic Friday afternoon, February 10, 2023, the life of 51-year-old Jamie L. Fowler was cut short in a residence on Moccasin Road in Hustonville, Kentucky. The female victim was discovered after a concerned family member, unable to reach her, went to the home and found a grim scene. Authorities were immediately contacted, and upon their arrival, they found Ms.
Fowler deceased.
The investigation, led by the Kentucky State Police, quickly determined the incident to be a murder-suicide. Evidence indicated that Steven Hiter, 52, had shot Jamie Fowler before taking his own life. The Lincoln County Coroner pronounced both individuals dead at the scene from gunshot wounds. An autopsy later confirmed that Ms. Fowler died from multiple shots fired from a small-caliber handgun.
The relationship between Fowler and Hiter was described as a domestic one, and the motive for the tragic event is believed to be related to domestic violence. Just days prior, on February 5, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office had been called to the residence for a verbal dispute. During that visit, deputies noted no visible injuries, and Ms. Fowler had reportedly indicated that she was in the process of moving out of the home.
Steven Hiter was identified as the sole suspect in the death of Jamie Fowler. As he died by suicide at the scene, no arrests were made in connection with her murder. The investigation concluded that Hiter was responsible for Fowler's death before he fatally shot himself.
