In the late hours of a Saturday night in Richmond, Kentucky, the life of 33-year-old Warren Michael Bowman was tragically cut short. On July 29, 2023, he found himself in the middle of a volatile situation that would end in a double homicide. What began as a domestic dispute between 24-year-old Makayla Walker and her boyfriend, Stephon Laroy Baskerville, escalated into a fatal encounter.
It is believed that Bowman, a bystander to the argument, attempted to intervene on Walker's behalf, a decision that placed him in the path of deadly violence.
Responding to reports of a shooting on Foxhaven Drive, Richmond police discovered a grim scene. Bowman was found with gunshot wounds, lying on the ground in the parking lot of an apartment complex. Not far from him, in a vehicle on the roadway, lay Makayla Walker, also a victim of the shooting. Despite the efforts of emergency medical personnel, both Bowman and Walker were pronounced dead at the scene. The shooter had fled on foot, sparking an immediate and intensive search by law enforcement.
The investigation quickly identified 24-year-old Stephon Laroy Baskerville as the primary suspect. As officers and police K9 units scoured the area throughout the night, the search for Baskerville continued. The following morning, he was spotted walking near South Keeneland Drive and Tates Creek, where he was taken into custody without incident. Baskerville was subsequently charged with murder-domestic violence, murder, and tampering with physical evidence, bringing a swift, though somber, development to a case that had claimed two lives.
