In the early morning hours of a Thursday in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, a tragic event unfolded that would cut short the life of 19-year-old Kelsey Moore. On August 24, 2023, Moore was inside a car at the intersection of Country Club Lane and East 21st Street when she was shot. The incident was reported to the Hopkinsville Police Department just before 4 a.m.
Emergency services arrived at the scene and found Moore in critical condition.
She was quickly transported by Hopkinsville EMS to Jennie Stuart Health for immediate medical attention. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was then transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Kelsey Moore succumbed to her injuries and passed away later that day.
Following the shooting, Hopkinsville Police began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Moore's death. After speaking with everyone involved, authorities indicated that the shooting may have been accidental. While the investigation is ongoing, police have confirmed that the individual who allegedly fired the weapon was taken into custody.
Kelsey Loretta Moore was born on November 26, 2003, in Gallatin, Tennessee. She was a mother to a daughter and was remembered by her family for her love of riding around and listening to music. Her family, including her parents, daughter, brothers, and sisters, were left to mourn her sudden and tragic loss. Funeral services were held to honor her memory, and she was laid to rest at the Pea Ridge Church Cemetery in Elkton.
