A 23-year-old woman named Christina Fikes lost her life in a violent encounter on September 23, 2023, in Lexington, Kentucky. The tragic event, which authorities believe was a murder-suicide, took place outside an apartment complex on Hollow Creek Road following a heated dispute.
Witnesses at the scene reported observing an altercation between Fikes and a man, later identified as Sami Younus. The argument reportedly turned physical when Younus began hitting Fikes.
One bystander, along with another individual, attempted to step in and de-escalate the situation. It was then that Younus brandished a gun, firing at those who tried to intervene, but he did not hit them. He then shot Fikes, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
After shooting Fikes, Younus was taken to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was later pronounced dead. The Fayette County Coroner's office handled the investigation into both deaths, with autopsies scheduled to be performed. The incident was one of three fatal shootings that occurred in Lexington within the same week.
