In the small community of Irvine, Kentucky, a tragic incident cut short the life of 14-year-old Jett LaRalston Lee Ballard on Friday, July 12, 2024. The young man, a resident of nearby Berea, was visiting friends in Estill County when the fatal event unfolded outside a home on Clark Road.
Jett, who was born on December 13, 2009, in Lexington, Kentucky, was a promising and well-liked student who was looking forward to attending Madison Southern High School. He was known for his love of video games, roller skating, riding bikes, and, most of all, football. He had been a standout player in the Farristown Middle Football program, earning recognition as a two-year All-Star Classic participant.
On that summer afternoon, around 1:30 p.m., Jett was accidentally shot by a 13-year-old. Despite attempts to save his life at the scene, he was later pronounced dead. The Estill County Coroner's office confirmed his identity.
Following the incident, the Kentucky State Police Post 7 from Richmond was called in to assist the Estill County Sheriff's Office with the investigation. Authorities have stated that they do not suspect any foul play in the shooting. As the investigation is ongoing and the incident has been deemed accidental, no arrests have been made. The community has mourned the loss of the young man, remembering his vibrant spirit and athletic talents.
