In the late hours of a Thursday night in Portland, Oregon, the life of a 19-year-old Black / African American male named Dazani Roberts, who was also known by the name Dazani Nathan, was tragically cut short. On January 19, 2023, just before midnight, officers from the North Precinct were dispatched to an apartment building in the 4200 block of Northeast Prescott Street in the Cully neighborhood following a report of a shooting.
Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene inside one
of the apartments. Dazani Roberts was found deceased, having succumbed to a gunshot wound. The suspect or suspects had already fled the location, leaving behind a neighborhood disturbed by the violence. Homicide detectives were called to the scene to begin their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the young man's death. As a result of the investigation, Northeast Prescott Street was temporarily closed between Northeast 42nd and Northeast 47th Avenues.
The following day, the Medical Examiner's office conducted an autopsy and officially ruled Roberts' death a homicide. While the police have been actively investigating the case, details about what led to the shooting have not been publicly released. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Dazani Roberts, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to seek information from the public to bring those responsible to justice.
