On October 27, 2024, at approximately 2:01 a.m., Portland police officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 4500 block of Northeast 20th Avenue in the Sabin Neighborhood of Portland, Oregon. Upon arrival, officers found 22-year-old Leno Batista-Guzman dead inside a vehicle parked on the curbline of the street.
Leno Batista-Guzman, a resident of Portland, was identified as the victim on October 31, 2024.
His family was notified of his death, and they provided a photograph for public release.
The medical examiner determined that Batista-Guzman died from a gunshot wound, ruling his death a homicide. At the time of the incident, the suspect or suspects were no longer at the scene, and no immediate arrests were made.
The Portland Police Homicide Unit is actively investigating the case. Detectives Tony Harris and Jeff Sharp are seeking additional information and are urging anyone with relevant details to contact them. The case number for this investigation is 24-275256.
Leno Batista-Guzman was also noted to be the nephew of the owner of Bison Coffeehouse, a local business that had previously been targeted in 2022 for hosting an event with Portland police called 'Coffee with a Cop'. The coffee shop memorialized him through a post on Instagram following his death. As of the current date, no arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
