In the early hours of March 15, 2023, a celebration turned into a scene of tragedy at an Embassy Suites hotel near the Portland International Airport. Teonjenique Elizabeth Lashay Hudson Howard, a 24-year-old Black / African American woman affectionately known as "TiTi," was at a birthday party being held in a hotel room. An altercation broke out during the gathering, and the dispute quickly and violently escalated into a shooting involving multiple individuals.
When Port of Portland
Police and Portland Police Bureau officers responded to the scene at approximately 2:44 a.m., they discovered a chaotic and grim situation. Inside the hotel room, Teonjenique had been fatally shot. Another individual, 19-year-old Adrian Daeshawn Granville, was also found deceased from gunshot wounds. The violence was not contained to the two who lost their lives; two other people, one of whom was a security guard, were injured in the gunfire but survived.
The investigation into the shooting was handled by the East County Major Crimes Team. Through their investigation and witness accounts, authorities identified Raman Lawrence, 33, as the individual who fired the shot that killed Teonjenique. In August 2023, a grand jury indicted Lawrence for her murder.
In June 2024, a Multnomah County judge found Raman Lawrence guilty of murder in the first degree with a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon with a firearm, and felon in possession of a firearm for his role in Teonjenique's death. Subsequently, he was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after serving 30 years. The investigation into the death of Adrian Granville was reported to be ongoing.
