On an autumn day in 1987, the life of 38-year-old John Harold Schiermeister, a male transient from Roseburg, Oregon, came to a brutal and tragic end. On October 5th, Schiermeister was in a railway yard in Portland, drinking with a man named Andrew David Edwards. In an alcohol-fueled rage, Edwards turned on Schiermeister, beating him to death with a fatal blow to the head.
