On a Sunday evening in late February of 2016, the life of Gary Jay Baechler, a 48-year-old Caucasian male, was tragically cut short. On February 28th, police responded to a call in Southeast Portland and found Baechler unconscious and suffering from gunshot wounds inside a residence. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The medical examiner later confirmed that Baechler’s death was a homicide caused by multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigators with the Portland Police Bureau canvassed the neighborhood and sought information from the public, hoping to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. A reward was offered for any information that would lead to an arrest in the case.
In the immediate aftermath, Baechler’s family was left reeling, struggling to understand why someone would take his life. His sister expressed her profound grief and the senselessness of the act. As of the initial investigation, authorities had not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the murder.
