On the evening of October 5, 2023, in the scenic community of Welches, Oregon, a sense of unease settled over the Mount Hood Village RV Resort. Deputies from the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the resort around 7:45 p.m. following reports of a domestic disturbance. The tranquil setting of the RV park was shattered by the events that were unfolding.
Upon their arrival, law enforcement officers discovered a grim scene.
Outside one of the trailers, they found 46-year-old Matthew Reid Mullin, who was deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. Inside the same trailer, they located 50-year-old Kimberly Taylor Mullin, a White/Caucasian female, who was critically injured, also from a gunshot wound. Deputies immediately rendered medical aid to Kimberly, and she was quickly transported by a Life Flight Network helicopter to a hospital in Portland. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Kimberly succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
Investigators learned that a third man had been present at the trailer at the time of the shooting. This individual was identified and has been cooperating with the ongoing investigation. Authorities have not publicly released his name, and no arrests have been made in connection with the deaths of Kimberly and Matthew Mullin. The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office has stated that the investigation is continuing. Community members remembered Kimberly, a mother of three and an author, for her vibrant presence and supportive nature.
