On May 31, 2015, a quiet home in Springfield, Oregon, became the scene of a double homicide that would remain undiscovered for weeks. Karen Ringquist, a 65-year-old woman, and her husband, Randy Ringquist, were shot and killed inside their residence. The tragedy came to light only after a concerned relative from out of state, unable to reach the couple, repeatedly asked police to conduct a welfare check.
