J'Meire Lee Asher, an 18-year-old Black/African American male, tragically lost his life on the evening of Saturday, July 13, 2024, in a fatal shooting in Portland, Oregon. The incident occurred at approximately 7:50 p.m. at the M. James Gleason Memorial Boat Ramp, located near the Broughton Beach area off Northeast Marine Drive. When officers from the North Precinct and the Focused Intervention Team arrived at the scene, they discovered J'Meire and another man, 38-year-old Deangelo Augustus of
Salem, deceased.
The medical examiner later determined that both J'Meire and Deangelo died from homicide by gunshot wound. According to police, the suspect or suspects had already fled the scene before law enforcement was called, and no immediate arrests were made in connection with the double homicide. Detectives with the Portland Police Homicide Unit are actively investigating the case and have urged anyone with information to come forward.
The shooting marked a grim milestone for the city, being the third homicide in less than 24 hours and the sixth in July. Investigators believe that there may have been witnesses to the event who left the boat ramp area before they could be interviewed. As the investigation remains ongoing, the suspect or suspects responsible for the deaths of J'Meire Lee Asher and Deangelo Augustus are still at large.
