In a tragic event that unfolded on the morning of April 27, 2024, Kaydion Dawson, a 45-year-old woman, was killed in her Lowell, Massachusetts, home. The incident, which occurred at the Bagshaw Mills Condominium on Warren Street, was a murder-suicide perpetrated by her husband.
Around 6:39 a.m., Lowell police received a harrowing 911 call from 52-year-old Steven Johns. In the call, Johns confessed to having shot his wife, Kaydion Dawson, and their 7-year-old daughter.
After reporting the killings, Johns then took his own life.
Upon their arrival at the residence, law enforcement officers discovered a devastating scene. They found the bodies of Kaydion Dawson and her young daughter, both deceased from gunshot wounds. The authorities also found Steven Johns dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The investigation into the deaths of Kaydion Dawson and her daughter pointed solely to Steven Johns as the perpetrator. As he died at the scene, no arrests were made in connection with the murders. The Middlesex District Attorney's Office, along with the Lowell Police Department and Massachusetts State Police, conducted the investigation into the tragic event. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was tasked with officially determining the cause and manner of the deaths.
