A 55-year-old Hispanic female, Rosa A. Santiago, died on December 25, 2022, in Lowell, Massachusetts. Responding to a call at approximately 1:38 p.m., Lowell Police discovered Rosa and her 60-year-old husband, Jose Santiago, deceased in their Beacon Street residence from what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
The preliminary investigation by law enforcement suggested that the incident was a murder-suicide. It is believed that Jose Santiago shot his wife before taking his own life.
This was later confirmed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, which determined Rosa's death to be a homicide and Jose's death to be a suicide.
Rosa was described by her family as a wonderful mother and grandmother with a big heart and a warm, room-lighting smile. She found joy in spending time with her children and grandchildren, as well as gardening, with a particular fondness for her orchids and Lady of the Night flowers. The investigation into the deaths of Rosa and Jose Santiago was conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney's Office in conjunction with the Lowell Police and Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney's Office.
