long wait for answers to a grim end. An off-duty state trooper noticed a tarp on the side of the Lowell Connector. Inside, wrapped in bedding, were the skeletal remains of a woman and a nearly full-term fetus. Dental records soon confirmed the remains belonged to Deborah Bates and her unborn child. The advanced state of decomposition made it impossible for investigators to determine a cause of death.
The investigation took a bizarre turn when authorities concluded that Deborah's body had not been at that location for the eleven years she was missing. Instead, it was believed that her killer had moved her remains to the roadside location shortly before they were discovered.
