On a warm Saturday night in Lawrence, Massachusetts, the life of a promising young man was tragically cut short. Albert Valentin Arias Moscat, a 17-year-old Black / African American male, was in the Brook Street area on July 6, 2024, when the sound of gunfire pierced the evening air at approximately 9:47 p.m. Lawrence Police officers were dispatched to the scene following reports of shots fired.
Upon their arrival, they discovered the young man suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical technicians and paramedics from Lawrence General Hospital rendered aid to Albert at the scene before he was rushed by ambulance to the hospital. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced deceased. The sudden and violent nature of his death sent a shockwave of grief through his family and the wider community. His sister remembered him as an intelligent, smart, and happy individual who was full of aspirations for a bright future. She described him as a young man who deeply loved his family and always strove to make them proud, leaving them at a profound loss for words over his untimely departure.
In the aftermath of the shooting, an active and ongoing investigation was launched, led by the Lawrence Police in conjunction with the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit for Essex County. Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker and Lawrence Police Chief Melix Bonilla have publicly appealed for assistance, urging anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the homicide, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects. The case remains unsolved, leaving a family to mourn and a community to await answers.
