In the early hours of May 6, 2023, Darian Jamar Wiley, a 27-year-old male, was fatally shot in the Kennedy-King neighborhood of Indianapolis, near the intersection of East 21st and Ruckle streets. He was in the company of his friend, 24-year-old Olivia Katherine Brown, who also lost her life in the violent encounter. The two had just returned from dinner when they were targeted in what investigators believe was a botched robbery.
Surveillance footage from the area captured the moments
leading up to the tragedy, showing Wiley walking Brown to her car. Two men wearing hoods were seen following them. After gunshots rang out, the same two individuals were recorded fleeing the scene. Both Wiley and Brown were discovered deceased at the location by responding officers.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department launched a homicide investigation into the double slaying. As of now, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects, and no arrests have been made in connection with the murders. Law enforcement has appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of those responsible for the deaths of Wiley and Brown.
Darian Jamar Wiley was remembered by his loved ones as a kind and energetic person. He was a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School, where he was the salutatorian of his 2015 class, and later earned a degree in Construction Management from Ball State University. He was actively involved as a mentor in the Architecture, Construction and Engineering Mentor Program and was posthumously scheduled to receive a Mentor of the Year award. His family and community continue to mourn his passing and await justice.
