His life, filled with the love of his family, came to an unimaginable end in an event that also claimed the lives of his mother and two sisters.
On that Tuesday afternoon, emergency responders were called to a house fire on East Telegraph Hill Road. Inside the burning home, they made a grim discovery: the bodies of Leland, his 12-year-old sister Adelia Faye Briner, his 6-year-old sister Iyla Danielle Briner, and their 35-year-old mother, Naomi Sue Briner. Despite life-saving efforts, all four were pronounced deceased at the scene.
The investigation, led by detectives from the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post, soon unraveled the devastating truth of what had transpired.
