In the late morning of December 29, 2022, a fatal confrontation unfolded in the parking lot of Madison Precision Products in Madison, Indiana. The incident claimed the life of Justin Lane Hall, a 34-year-old man from the area. The events leading to his death stemmed from a personal dispute.
An altercation broke out between Hall and two other men, 21-year-old Christian Kennedy and 36-year-old Matthew Redd.
The conflict was reportedly connected to Redd's concerns about a relative who was allegedly in an abusive relationship with Hall. Surveillance footage from the factory parking lot captured the tragic sequence of events. The recording showed Hall striking both Redd and Kennedy in the face. In response, Kennedy produced a firearm and shot Hall. After Hall collapsed to the ground, Redd proceeded to strike him with brass knuckles. Hall was pronounced dead at the scene when law enforcement arrived.
Both Christian Kennedy and Matthew Redd were detained at the scene and subsequently arrested. Initially, both men were charged with murder. Later, they both entered guilty pleas to lesser charges. On August 30, 2023, Matthew Redd pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and on September 18, he was sentenced to 30 years in the Indiana Department of Correction. Christian Kennedy entered a guilty plea on September 22, 2023, and was expected to be sentenced to 25 years in prison on November 8 of that year.
