Byron Keith Curry, a 48-year-old Black male, tragically lost his life on March 7, 2024, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. On that Thursday afternoon, at approximately 4:23 PM, Fort Wayne Police Department officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 1200 block of Hugh Street. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mr. Curry suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving measures attempted at the scene, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The Allen County Coroner's Office later confirmed that the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds and ruled the manner of death a homicide. This incident marked the 11th homicide in Allen County for the year 2024.
The investigation into the death of Byron Curry was a collaborative effort involving the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor's Office, and the Allen County Coroner's Office. Homicide detectives were able to identify 31-year-old Thristian Boykin as the suspect in the shooting. On March 17, 2024, just ten days after the fatal shooting, Boykin was apprehended without incident during a traffic stop. The arrest was the result of the combined efforts of several units within the police department, including the Gang and Violent Crime Unit, Vice and Narcotics Unit, and the Aerial Support Unit.
Following his arrest, Thristian Boykin was transported to the Allen County Jail. He is currently being held on a preliminary charge of murder in connection with the shooting death of Byron Curry. The Fort Wayne Police Department publicly expressed their gratitude to the community for the numerous tips they received, which were instrumental in the identification and eventual arrest of the suspect. While an arrest has been made, the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting remains ongoing.
