On the morning of Friday, March 15, 2024, officers from the Terre Haute Police Department were dispatched to the Red Carpet Inn following reports of a shooting. The motel, located at 2150 North 3rd Street on the city's north side near the U.S. 41 and 63 interchange, became the center of a homicide investigation after authorities discovered a wounded male at the scene. The victim was identified as 22-year-old Darian R. Tyler.
