On a tragic Monday evening in Indianapolis, what began as a dispute between friends escalated into a fatal act of violence, claiming the life of Dustin Wesley Soubeih. The 39-year-old man, a resident of Whiteland, Indiana, was shot and killed on April 1, 2024, in the 1300 block of Kappes Street. The incident unfolded shortly after 6 p.m. when an argument between Soubeih and another man took a deadly turn.
A witness to the event recounted that after a heated exchange, a gunshot rang out, and Soubeih was struck in the neck.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers who responded to the scene discovered Soubeih with an apparent gunshot wound and he was pronounced dead at the location. The investigation quickly focused on a possible suspect believed to be inside a nearby home on Kappes Street. The IMPD SWAT team was deployed to the scene, and after a standoff that lasted for hours, it was determined that the suspect was not inside the residence.
Early the following Tuesday morning, law enforcement officials located and arrested a suspect in the 1000 block of North Traub Avenue, approximately two and a half miles from the scene of the shooting. The individual taken into custody is facing a preliminary charge of murder in connection with Dustin Soubeih's death. Soubeih, who was born on June 14, 1984, in Indianapolis, worked as a residential and commercial painter. He was remembered by loved ones for his enjoyment of music and sports, and for his willingness to help others.
