In the late hours of a Wednesday evening in Gary, Indiana, the life of 24-year-old Seth Montgomery was tragically cut short by gun violence. On June 5, 2024, authorities responded to his residence on Jefferson Street to find him deceased. An autopsy would later confirm that he had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, and his death was officially ruled a homicide.
The events of that night unfolded within the walls of his own home. According to court records, his father was awakened by the sound of gunshots around 9:45 PM. Stepping out of his bedroom, he was confronted with a horrifying scene: one of his sons, Seth, was on the ground bleeding from his head, while his other son, Billy White Jr., stood nearby with what appeared to be a gun concealed under his shirt. When the father questioned what had happened, White allegedly responded with threats.
Following the confrontation, White fled the house and compelled his father to drive him to a nearby hospital. After dropping him off, the father immediately returned home and contacted the police. Investigators from the Merrillville and Gary Police Departments located White a short time later. Security footage from the hospital assisted in the discovery of his shirt and a gun in some nearby bushes.
Billy White Jr. was taken into custody but was unable to provide a statement as he was placed on suicide watch. He has since been charged with murder and unlawful carrying of a handgun. Court records indicate that White had prior felony convictions that made it illegal for him to possess a handgun.
