On July 11, 2024, David Darrel Dewey, a 51-year-old resident of La Porte, Indiana, and formerly of Rensselaer, lost his life in a tragic shooting incident in North Liberty, Indiana. The incident occurred in the 100 block of Stewart Street, where police were called at around 6:30 a.m. following a report that a man had shot another individual and then himself.
